Raising the minimum wage makes hiring a large quantity of young, low-skilled workers (willing to take any job to gain experience and better job prospects) expensive . It consistiently kicks out the least skilled and least educated Americans from the work force; today this group largely includes those identifying with a minority race. If progressives actually cared about the well being of that group, they’d stop dicking around with the market, and let people pursue employment and the satisfaction of earning income.
